Doghouse Sample Works

Sample piece from Where the Music Comes From By Pat Galvin

A Constable Skyline

The emotion is to be found in the clouds, not in the green solids of the sloping hills.

John Constable

Autumn heralds a scattered sky,
tremendous clouds of grey
and white are silhouetted now
and hang above the town.

October's flashlight sun, through
clouds voluptuous is windowed
down, shafting the sky in quick
retreat from falling leaves
and darkening winter streets.

This ceiling firmament is silent.
Trees denuded stand like brooms.
Shoes long for walks through
leaves that speak this gloom.

I'm driving home from work.
The sky's on fire and all
the landscape's black as soot
and stands like cuttings;
a stillness now, a quiet
like being deaf. I stop and look.
