Guidelines for Subitting your work to DOGHOUSE
-
DOGHOUSE welcomes submissions from writers who are generally resident on the island of Ireland and have a track record in writing - you must have built up a strong reputation in the small presses, poetry magazines, awards, readings etc. No one has ever won an Olympics without first winning smaller local and national races !!
If you haven't yet published your work we recommend the best place to find markets for it is Light's List. Also check the list of Irish poetry magazines and the Writers' & Artists Yearbook (A & C Black) for the "do's and don'ts"
We publish poetry and short stories collections by single authors only. Please don't submit work from any other genre as it's a waste or both your time and ours. From time to time we may publish anthologies where single pieces are welcome in an open submission. Any such anthologies will be advertised and on the website
The postal address for submissions is: DOGHOUSE, PO Box 312, Tralee GPO, Co Kerry
Three hard copies of full manuscripts must be sent - we don't want "samples of", we want the full manuscript
A poetry collection is usually 40 - 60 poems. Short Story collections are usually 40,000 - 50,000 words
No manuscripts will be accepted by email or on disc only. It costs too much to print them off, and we refuse to read work off the screen
Please include a full literary CV and details of where each poem/story has been published/awarded
Always include a self-addressed envelope with sufficient postage for return or response
It is recommended that people read at least one DOGHOUSE book to get a feel for what we're about before submitting work
We will try to respond back to you within three months
